Briarwind uplands, looking South

The Briarwind Hills are the foothills of the Dayfall Mountains. Alternating between broken crags and rolling downs, they are heath-cloaked and wind-swept. Innumerable small streams thread through the hills, disappearing into the ground or eventually joining the Swift River.

The Hills are thinly inhabited by shepherds, goatherds, and their flocks. The land is more settled closer to High Castle, becoming sparser more upland or south. North of the Swift River's gorge the settlements are few and peter out long before the blue boles of the Winter Weald can be seen.

Farther south the Briarwinds sweep west between the southmost limb of the Dayfall Mountains and the forbidding shadows of the Sandwood. This frontier of Tayel is deserted, and few shepherds who heedlessly venture into those cursed hills return without a harrowing story of some terror barely glimpsed.
