Bronwyn of the Briarwinds hails from her family's moderately prosperous sheep farm in the Briarwind Hills. While she enjoyed shepherding and cheese-making as a young girl, she didn't see herself pursuing the marriage alliances that would continue the rural lifestyle and family line. Instead she felt a calling away to fight Tayel's enemies and other evil elements.

With the future of the family farm ensured by her six older siblings, Bronwyn joined the military the day after her 16th birthday with her parents' blessing, first serving in the army for three years and then performing a year-long tour of duty in the navy.

Naval service did not suit her, unfortunately: she was prone to seasickness, could not adjust to the confinement of shipboard life, and did not approve of the drinking and whorehouse habits of her fellows. However, the experience has left her with knowledge of ships and seafaring and she is especially proficient with knots.

Despite her military service, Bronwyn remains idealistic and optimistic, characteristics that serve her well as she sets out to fight evil as an independent adventurer. She is also, however, fairly cautious, prudent and conservative in her decision making: while she is brave in the face of danger, she is not known to take unnecessary risks or charge blindly into unknown situations. Her will is strong to a fault, often resulting in a stubborn resistance to compromise with others in a disagreement over moral or spiritual issues.

Many are surprised to find that Bronwyn is an extremely capable fighter, gifted with the sword and uncannily proficient in unarmed combat, because in regular daily existence she is often quite clumsy. This is because in a fight her lack of dexterity is more than compensated for by a momentary prescient awareness that only manifests when she’s under threat; she’s not aware yet that this is unique to her, and she doesn’t use it mindfully.

Having served out her obligation to Tayel, Bronwyn felt a need for a more independent life and has taken an honourable discharge from the military. After travelling to her parents' farm to retrieve a family heirloom sword, she has returned to Dragon Falls. While in the army she had spent some time stationed in the town, during which she became acquainted with Gemina, and fascinated by the young woman's sharp intellect.

By chance, Gemina, Roh, and Bronwyn were on a gondola that broke down, and were stuck together for several hours and got to know each other.

Bronwyn is a strong, healthy young woman whose muscular six-foot frame rivals that of a fit man and dwarfs the average woman. She finds it most practical to wear her long, straight dark blonde hair in a ponytail to keep it out of the way. Her face is not homely but not the sort to inspire sonnets (something she'd find extremely off-putting in any case): her strong bone structure is generally considered plain, though she is eye-catching because of her size and her unusual hair colour. Her garb is consistently in good condition, but practical and unadorned.
