The Fens

The Fens is a vast area of marsh, islets, shifting channels, sloughs, and mist-shrouded stands of waterlogged trees enclosed by the waterways of the Swift delta. The Fens shoulder against the forested hills below Torr Aegis to the north. To the south the hills of the Spine rise dramatically from the bogs and pace the Swift's flow down to the sea. Where the southmost branch of the Swift meets the sea, beyond the Fens, lies the Tayelan exclave of Farmarsh.

The largest branch of the Swift runs though the south of the Fens, roughly tracing the line where the swamps meet the ridges of the south hills. Though it is shallow and unnavigable for naval vessels, it carries a regular flow of goods on broad-hulled riverboats and flat barges between Farmarsh, Rightspear, and Rook's Hollow.
